As many of you already know, Apple released the 1.1.3 firmware for the iPod Touch
earlier this week. What is really upsetting, is that the firmware is free, but you have to pay $20 to unlock all of the apps and features. Many iPod Touch owners have decided to downgrade back to 1.1.1 even after paying the $20 for the new apps. It has also come to my attention that the new firmware 1.1.3 is very unstable with problems such as no sound, mail errors, and safari crashes. More details about this firmware and its hacked status to come.

I have found that the 1.1.3 is great!! I have had no problems and I love the new applications.

I had a really tough time installing this from an iBook G4 with Tiger. Kept getting the “Unexpected Error (6)” message, after the ipod into “safe mode”. Eventually, I had to connect it to my Windows XP computer and restore it from there. Then I was able to connect it back to the G4 and everything was fine again.
This update did not go well and I was very disappointed. If it was free, that’s one thing. But I had to pay $20 for a pain in the ass. I expect this level of aggravation from Microsoft, not Apple.

I updated to 1.1.3 and payed the 20 bucks, But Google Maps is unable to find my location, even though I am Using wi-fi.

I forked out 40 dlls, 1 for the wife and the other for me, and we are both having different problems. Youtube crashes if the iPod hasn’t been shutdown and restarted in the last 20 hrs of use. Mail is unable to work with my work email service even though it is supported. Google maps is cool, except it doesn’t find my location regardless if I am on a known wifi network.
With Microsoft, I’m used to it. But Apple is supposed to be the peoples systems and not cause problems. Well, all I say is ask any iPod touch user and they’ll tell you the rest of the story.

i was just wondering if there would be any way to take off the hacks you have already downloaded if maybe your ipod broke and you needed it to show you havent voided the warranty.

I updated to 1.1.3 and purchased the upgrade. I installed it on my sisters itouch and then decided to upgrade my own. I did the update and it automatically unlocked the extras. No extra $20 for my ipod. Everything works perfectly for me. No problems. I never shut down my ipod. but i do always sync it to a mac! I wonder why everyone else has problems?

Also google maps does find my location. I have tested it all over. Works at my girlfriends house, works on campus at my local university, at work. It has come up with saying could not determine location, but I was on a limited access wifi.
